New Delhi: Eminent leaders, authors and students today took part in a ‘resistance meeting’ organised at the JNU for Najeeb Ahmed, who has been missing for more than a year following a scuffle with other students inside the campus.
At the event organised by the JNU Students Union (JNUSU), author Shuddabrata Sengupta urged students to take up resistance in all forms and maintain it till Ahmed was found.
“Continued resistance in different forms is needed. Also, the quiet work like regularly updating legal counsel, working with his family, asking investigating officers is much needed,” Sengupta said, adding that this was not the time for anyone to score points.
Citing other cases in which students have gone missing, Sengupta held JNU Vice Chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar responsible for alleged dereliction in his duties.
“The VC is the guardian of every student. Technically, the VC can be prosecuted for dereliction of duty,” he said.
Senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar said it was everyone’s responsibility to find Ahmed.
“It is everyone’s responsibility – right from the VC to the LG of Delhi – to find him. We don’t know what happened, but there are people who know what happened. Asking few questions to them would reveal (what had happened). But the efforts that are happening indicates something is being hidden,” he said.
“Till we find Najeeb, let us continue asking questions,” he said.
Manoj Jha, an RJD spokesperson, pitched for unity between “Jai Bhim” and “Lal Salaam” in finding the missing student.
All India Progressive Women’s Association (AIPWA) secretary Kavitha Krishnan was among those participated in the event organised near the Sabarmati Dhaba inside the campus.
Najeeb Ahmed (27), a student of M.Sc Biotechnology, has been missing from the Mahi-Mandvi hostel of the Jawaharlal Nehru University since October 15, 2016.
He had an altercation with several students, allegedly affiliated to the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), according to his friends and family.
