Australian spinners carve out massive win over Windies in tri-series

Providence (Guyana): Australian spinners Nathan Lyon and Adam Zampa produced contrasting performances before David Warner struck an unbeaten 55 to help the tourists claim a comfortable six-wicket win over the West Indies in the second match of the ODI triangular series at the Providence Stadium in Guyana.

Put in to bat first, West Indies batsmen posted their lowest ever ODI score at home against Australia as they struggled on a spin-friendly pitch and were bundled out for 116 in just 32.3 overs, thanks to spin duo Lyon and Zampa, who grabbed three wickets apiece.

Pace spearhead Mitchell Starc was also impressive in his return from ankle surgery that kept him away from cricket for six months. He removed both openers as Australia started the tri-series in style with earning a bonus point.

In reply, Australia cantered home in 25.4 overs as Warner continued his red-hot form from the Indian Premier League, smashing three fours and one six in his match-winning innings.

Warner led from the front and remained on the crease till the end as Aaron Finch, Usman Khawaja and Steve Smith failed to capitalise on their starts, while Glenn Maxwell was clean bowled for a second-ball duck by a marvellous delivery from offspinner Sunil Narine.

Australia will take on South Africa on Wednesday. (ANI)
