London : Australian woman cricketer Piepa Cleary has been handed a six-month suspension for placing bets on the third Test between the Steve Smith-led side and New Zealand in November.
Confirming the news, Cricket Australia said that they had imposed a 24-month period of ban on Cleary, of which 18 months were suspended on condition that she would not commit any further offences under the Anti-Corruption Code.
CA added that the 19-year old will also have to participate in anti-corruption player education programs organized by them.
According to the Guardian, Cleary, who plays in the Women’s Big Bash League for Western Australia and Perth Scorchers, had placed a bet of about 15.50 Australian dollars.
The suspension means the player would not participate in any domestic and international matches and the ban also barred her to attend cricket-related functions and events. (ANI)
