Australia: Intruder drinks champagne, falls asleep in owner’s bed

Esperance: A 36-year-old man has been booked by Australian police after he allegedly broke into a house, and drank owner’s champagne then fell asleep in her bed.

Police said the man forced his way into the house in Esperance, Western Australia, around lunchtime on Friday, according to a report by BBC.

He fell asleep after drinking the resident’s “quite expensive” champagne, officers said.
When the owner returned home, she allegedly found the thief in her bed.

“She used her great initiative and crept outside the house to phone police who attended and arrested the offender,” Senior Sgt Richard Moore, from Esperance Police, told.

“Police attended as soon as we got the call and located the person asleep,” Moore said.
The man was taken to hospital after being found “very intoxicated”, he added. He has been charged with burglary offences.
