Aurangzeb had great fondness for the Deccan particularly for Golconda. Since his father Shahjahan made him the Viceroy of Deccan he wished to include Deccan into his territory. He invaded Golconda in 1686 and then besieged the fort of Golconda.
He built a 3-arched masjid at the right of Qutub Shahi Tombs entrance in which he used to offer prayers. Department of archeology and some historians believe that the masjid was built within 24 hours. Aalamgiri masjid is the smallest mosque yet the only inhabited masjid among 17 masajid.
Some historians say that Aurangzeb Aalamgir was busy in prayers inside the masjid even when the war was going on. Prejudiced and bigoted historians call Aurangzeb as anti-Hindu but in reality many of the commanders of his army were Rajput. He donated jagirs to several temples.
He had such an imposing personality that East India Company was forced to seek apology from the Mughal ruler. Only after the death of Aurangzeb the Britishers could set foot in India.
