A premium German car brand Audi was fined 800 million euros which are around $927 million for violations tied to heavily polluting six- and eight-cylinder diesel engines.
Audi in its statement said, it accepts the fine and will not lodge an appeal against it, and with this, it is clear that it admits its responsibility for the differences from regulatory requirements. The company said that some V6 and V8 diesel engines were “placed on the market with an impermissible software function”.
Volkswagen cancelled the contract of Audi Chief Executive Rupert Stadler earlier this month who is under inquiry for suspected association in emissions cheating. Former Audi boss Rupert Stadler was arrested in June over his alleged involvement in the emissions scandal.
In June this year, Volkswagen Group got a similar 1 billion euro fine when prosecutors in Braunschweig also used a so-called administrative order to punish the company for omission problems which allowed millions of polluting cars to hit the road.
Volkswagen was fined for developing and selling polluting four-cylinder engines.
