State Minister for Mines and Geology Galla Aruna kumari today informed the Legislative Assembly that the government was following all procedures for conducting sand auctions throughout the state. He told members during the Question Hour in the House, the revenue collected on sand for financial years 2009-10, 2010-11 and 2011-12 (upto Dec,2011) was Rs 100.65 crores, Rs 157.75 crore and Rs 107.02 crore respectively. There was no complaint received on the contractors making trenches into the river beds illegally causing depletion of ground water levels and hence, there was no question of measures being taken to curb illegal sand mining , she clarified.
