Attention of Muslims being diverted from major issues

Makkah, July 25: Chairman of the Supreme Judiciary Council Saleh Bin-Humaid has warned that current crises in the Muslim world have diverted the attention of followers from more serious issues.

“The current crises have taken a dangerous turn diverting the attention of the Muslim Ummah from major issues such as Palestine,” said Bin-Humaid, who chaired the second session of the three-day conference organized by the Muslim World League (MWL) on the current issues of the Muslim world in Makkah on Sunday.

Briefly outlining the circumstances that created the present crises in the Muslim world, Bin-Humaid stressed that religious scholars should guide Muslim leaders and the people.

Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal inaugurated the three-day conference titled “Issues and Challenges of the Muslim World” at MWL conference hall in Makkah on Saturday.

Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah Al-Ashaikh, who is also chairman of the constituent council of MWL, and MWL Sec-Gen. Abdullah Al-Turki were present at the conference.

A number of researchers presented papers shedding light on various aspects of the issues of people in Muslim countries.

Member of the Higher World Council of Mosques Abu Lubaba Saleh presented his paper on the social and economic causes of the Tunisian revolution, Tunisian thinker Abdul Fattah Moro spoke on the influence of extraneous ideologies in Tunisia’s Muslim society and Muhammad Al-Julainid of Cairo University spoke on the contemporary cultural infrastructure in the Muslim world.

The Grand Mufti of Jerusalem Muhammad Ahmad Hussein presided over the third session entitled “Rights and Duties.”

The speakers focused on the rights and duties of both rulers and subjects. Keynote speakers in the session included Member of Islamic Fiqh Council of MWL Muhammad Al-Osmani and President of the Salafi University in Pakistan Taher Mahmoud.

They both presented papers on the rights and obligations of a ruler. Secretary-general of Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs Saleh Al-Aed read a paper on the rights and duties of subjects and how the right implementation of such matters will ensure the security of the country.
