Mr. Dana Kishore, IAS, Secretary Dept. of Minorities Welfare, Govt. of A.P. conducted a meeting in Hajj House yesterday to hear complaints about the irregularities in Minorities institutions managed by Govt. He fixed Monday for hearing all such complaints. One such meeting was held yesterday. The results of the meeting held yesterday were not very encouraging. Only 16 complaints were received which included 14 complaints about Minorities Finance Corporation in connection with scholarships. No doubt, it is a welcome gesture to hold such weekly meetings but such attempts would fail if proper publicity is not made. It is not that irregularities or complaints have been over. There are many issues to be resolved but people have very little confidence in the functioning of the Govt. in resolving their issues.
People have bitter experience with Minorities institutions. They have a feeling that Govt. departments receive their complaints and throw them in dust bins without taking any action on them. People are reluctant to meet an officer of the level of Secretary.
Instead of satisfying themselves with the receipt of complaints, Govt. officials should make an attempt to resolve the issues.
It is the responsibility of the Dept. Of Minorities Welfare to give a wide publicity that complaints are being received on every Monday at Hajj house about the irregularities of Govt. institutions concerning Minority affairs.
There is an apprehension in the minds of minorities that the officials of the Dept. of Minorities don’t want to publicize such programmes with the fear that their irregularities would come to limelight in this way.
The Secretary of Minorities Welfare should also inform the public on every Monday about the action taken on previous complaints so that the message could reach the people.
