Attacks on US, Korea sites stem from Britain, says security expert

Hanoi, July 16: An official of leading Vietnamese cyber security company Bkis on Thursday said it had found that attacks launched on websites in South Korea and the US earlier this month appear to have stemmed from a master server in Britain.

Nguyen Tu Quang, director of Bkis, said that after receiving records from South Korean authorities his centre analyzed them and concluded that the master server which distributed the attacks was located in Britain.

“We have sent analyzed data back to the South Korean and US governments to help them deal with the case,” Quang said.

The total number of PCs involved in the attack was estimated at about 167,000 in 74 countries.

The Bkis centre on Monday said the IP address of the master server was registered to Global Digital Broadcast in Britain.

The attacks, targeting dozens of government and commercial websites in the US and South Korea, caused temporary outages to several computers and concerns for the two governments
