Chandigarh, Nov 11: Jagdeep Singh, a BSc Mathematics in the Panjab University, was injured after he was hit by a sharp-edged weapon by his junior Gurinder Singh on Tuesday evening. Jagdeep received multiple fractures on his head and taken to the Sector-16 government hospital from where he was referred to the PGI. His condition is stable, say doctors.
Jagdeep was attacked outside the department around 4:30 pm where Gurinder and Sukhdev, an MSc II student, waylaid the victim and the accused attacked him, say eyewitnesses. The incident has again highlighted lack of security on the campus as both accused managed to flee from the university and securitymen outside the department or or at the main gate could not stop them.
A tiff during the Saturday night freshers party is stated to the reason behind the incident.
Meanwhile, the students of the department registered their protest against the attack and raised questions on security of a student in the university. “Security on the campus is only for VVIP visits,” said a student. Meanwhile, hostel warden Gurmeet Singh said, “Jagdeep has never been involved in any trouble-creating activity.” Meanwhile, no case was registered till the filing of this report.
