Washington: The US today strongly condemned the assassination of the Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrei Karlov in Ankara, saying the “heinous” attack on a member of the diplomatic corps is unacceptable, and offered assistance in investigation.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of Ambassador Karlov and the other victims, and we offer our condolences to the Russian people and Government,” said Ned Price, Spokesman of the National Security Council, the White House.

“The United States strongly condemns the assassination,” he said.

“This heinous attack on a member of the diplomatic corps is unacceptable, and we stand united with Russia and Turkey in our determination to confront terrorism in all of its forms,” Price said.

The State Department offered assistance to Russia and Turkey in the investigation.

“We stand ready to offer assistance to Russia and Turkey as they investigate this despicable attack, which was also an assault on the right of all diplomats to safely and securely advance and represent their nations around the world,” John Kirby, the State Department spokesman, said.
