New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday issued notice to the three lawyers, who assaulted Jawaharlal Nehru University ( JNU) Students’ Union president Kanhaiya Kumar and sought their response as to why the contempt proceeding should not be initiated against them.
The apex court made this observation after hearing a plea seeking contempt action against three lawyers accused of beating Kanhaiya and others at the Patiala House Court complex.
The apex court yesterday agreed to hear the matter after lawyer Prashant Bhushan sought an urgent hearing on the plea filed by another advocate.
The plea, which was filed in the apex court on Wednesday, sought suo motu contempt proceedings against lawyers Vikram Singh Chauhan, Yashpal Singh and Om Sharma on the ground that they have allegedly been caught on camera talking about the attacks.
The plea also seeks a direction to set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the incidents.(ANI)
