Melbourne, August 07: Even as Australia has been denying that racial issues were behind the attacks on Indians, the daily assault on Indians speaks otherwise.
Headlines Today got exclusive access to the shocking pictures of a recent attack on an Indian taxi driver. The taxi camera image sequence shows two men wearing Hungry Jack’s bags on their heads attacking taxi driver in Melbourne’s inner-east.
Two attackers stepped out of a local fast-food joint and got into the taxi of 24-year-old Vadbhaj Singh on a lonely Melbourne street around 4 am on July 27.
After pre-paying Australian $ 20, the duo asked Singh to drive to a street in Richmond.
On reaching the spot, one of the men stepped out of the taxi. The other one then put a pair of scissors to Singh’s face and demanded cash and the taxi’s global positioning system (GPS) unit. He hit Singh several times on the head before getting out of the taxi.
Singh even returned the scissors-wielding man’s $ 20, but the latter threw it back into the cab before fleeing without any cash or the GPS.
‘I wanted to get onto a busier road’
Even as the horrific attack began to unfold in the taxi, the only thought running through Singh’s mind was how to save himself and how could he get out of a situation that was fast getting out of control.
Singh said, “I really wanted to drive to the police station. I wanted to get onto a busier road because that was a really quiet street, so maybe some others taxi drivers who were passing, maybe they would stop and assist me.”
“They knew the area very well so that is why they took me there. That was a dead end street which ends with a laneway,” Singh added.
