On Thursday, the Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) officials have picked up a man from Bengaluru in connection with the twin blasts that took place in the Bangalore-Guwahati Express in Chennai on May 1.
The man was picked up from Gouripalaya near Chandra Layout for interrogation as the sleuth’s suspect that he was abreast of some activists of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), who were allegedly behind the blasts that rocked Chennai Central Railway Station.
According to sources which said that from the arrested person, the ATS sleuths have got leads about the alleged involvement of SIMI activists, based in Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu, in the twin blasts and further investigations were on.
The bombs in the S5 and S6 coaches of the Bangalore-Guwahati Express went off in a little while after the train had arrived at Chennai Central Station around 7.15 am. The twin blasts killed a woman and left 14 injured.
