Hyderabad, January 18:A senior Advocate of the High Court, Mr A Sudarshan Reddy, has been appointed Advocate General of the State.
According to a GO issued late this evening, the Governor, in exercise of the powers conferred in him by Article 165 (1) of the Constitution, appointed Mr A. Sudarshan Reddy as Advocate-General for the State from the date of his taking charge of the office.
Mr Sudarshan Reddy is the first Telangana advocate getting the opportunity of being appointed Advocate General as no Telangana candidate was appointed to the post after formation of the State in 1956. The Justice B N Srikrishna Committee set up to study the situation in the State also mentioned in pages 288 and 289 of its report that no Telangana candidate was appointed Advocate General of the State.
Mr Sudarshan Reddy has good rapport with the Chief Minister, Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy. Moreover, he was college-mate of Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy. He also played a crucial role in ending the agitation of Telangana advocates for quota in legal counsel posts in the High Court. Though the name of Supreme Court advocate, Mr P. Niroop Reddy, was heard for the post earlier, he did not succeed in influencing the Chief Minister. His direct participation in Telangana agitation was also a minus point to him. His name was put aside as he contested in the last Assembly elections from Medak Parliamentary Lok Sabha on BJP ticket.
As a non-controversial man, Mr Sudarshan Reddy got the opportunity of being appointed as Advocate General
