Assets declaration: Madras HC judges to file statement

Chennai, September 03: The judges of the Madras High Court will file a statement of their assets with its Chief Justice before October 31.

The decision was taken at a full court meeting this evening, a court official said, adding the details would be made available on the High Court website.

The court was, however, still awaiting the modalities for filing the statement from the Supreme Court, the official said.

The Chief Justice of India, K G Balakrishnan, on August 28 said Supreme Court judges would make their assets public on the official website in a month or more, but suggested the judges of high courts cannot be compelled by the apex judiciary to follow the suit.

“It is a unanimous a decision and every judge of the Supreme Court will disclose his assets,” the CJI had said.

Last week, the Madras High Court Chief Justice H L Gokhale had said the Supreme Court was in the process of formulating modalities for declaration of assets.
