Assembly adjourned without carrying any business on Day-1

As expected, the monsoon session of the State Legislative Assembly had a stormy start on Monday. However, following uproar and pandemonium by the opposition parties, the House could not carry any business on the first-day of five-day session.

The Telugu Desam Party members entered the House by holding lanterns as a symbol of State Government’s failure to tide over power crisis. Similarly, Telangana Rashtra Samithi MLAs came to the House by holding placards of Jai Telangana. The YSR Congress members too had placards about the Fee Reimbursement issue and farmers’ problems.

As soon as the House met, the opposition parties’ MLAs gave adjournment motions on different issues. While D Narendra Kumar of TDP gave adjournment motion on power crisis, Dharmana Krishna of YSRC and Akbaruddin Owaisi of MIM wanted discussion son Fee Reimbursement issue; TRS floor leader Etala Rajender and E Lakshminarayana of BJP demanded Telangana resolution in the assembly and Nagam Janardhan Reddy (independent), G Mallesh (CPI) and
Lakshminarayana (BJP) wanted the State to officially celebrate the Hyderabad Liberation Day.
Speaker Nadendla Manohar disallowed all the adjournment motions.

However, the members of opposition parties continued slogan shouting and demanded that the House discusses the issues raised by them. While the TDP MLAs gathered on the left side of Speaker’s podium, the TRS members captured the right side. The YSR Congress members gathered in front of the podium. The BJP, CPI and CPM members too joined the slogan shouting by standing on their respective seats. The Speaker made several appeals asking the members to
resume their seat to start regular listed business of the House. However, the opposition members ignored the appeals to continue with the slogan shouting.

After about eight minutes the House was adjourned till 10 am. However, the uproar continued after the House was reassembled. Meanwhile, the Speaker postponed the Question Hour and asked for circulation of statement on the energy crisis. He appealed to the opposition members to cooperate to take up a short discussion on the power issue. However, his appeals failed to convince the opposition parties and he was forced to adjourn the House again for half-an-hour.

There was no change in the mood or approach of the opposition parties when the House reassembled again at about 10.40 am. Sensing no signs of change, the Speaker adjourned the House for the day till Tuesday.

Meanwhile, YSR Congress party floor leader YS Vijayamma has been allotted a seat on the front row in the House. (INN)
