The State Legislative Assembly was adjourned on Tuesday without transacting any business following stalling of proceedings by the opposition parties over Telangana and Bayyaram mines issue.
As soon as the House met on Tuesday, TRS and BJP MLAs insisted on introducing Telangana Bill in the House. Similarly, the TDP legislators wanted discussion on Bayyaram mines issue. Speaker Nadendla Manohar’s refusal to allow the adjournment motions move by the opposition parties led to the stalling of proceedings by the latter. The TRS, BJP and TDP members surrounded the Speaker’s podium by holding placards while shouting slogans.
Following uproar, the Speaker adjourned the House for half-an-hour at about 9.09 AM. After the House reassembled at about 10.30 AM, the Speaker directed Standing Committee on Welfare Chairman Atharam Sakku to table the committee’s report. Later, the Speaker announced that the Standing Committee reports on 13 Departments were deemed to have been tabled.
The Speaker informed that as many as 183 MLAs and MLCs have actively participated in the preparation of Standing Committee reports. He congratulated all the participants as this was for the first this system was followed on the lines of Parliament.
Meanwhile, the TRS and TDP members continued their slogan shouting pressing discussion on their demands. The Speaker asked them to raise their demands in a different form. However, the opposition members did not listen to the Speaker’s request and continued stalling the House.
Legislative Affairs Minister D Sreedhar Babu slammed the opposition members for their behaviour and said they were not following the decision taken during the meeting of Business Advisory Committee. He appealed to the opposition members to resume their seats.
With the opposition members continuing their slogan shouting, the Speaker adjourned the House again for another half-an-hour at around 10.40 AM.
Normalcy could not be resorted in the House when it met again at about 12.16 PM for the third time. This forced the Speaker to adjourn the House for the day. (INN)
