Guwahati, August 01: To restore peace in the troubled North Cachar Hill district of Assam and ensure security to people, there was an imperative need to make the administration stronger, Union Home Secretary GK Pillai said.
Participating in a unified command meeting with top government, Army and police officials here Friday night, Pillai asked the government to make the presence of administration and security felt among the public in the hill district to restore peace.
Pointing out that it was the duty of the government to provide security to the militants under ceasefire, Pillai said “without good governance development is not possible.”
Pillai also interacted with NC Hill Autonomous Council officials and a delegation of representatives of several social organisations of the district and assured them that the Centre will take all measures to maintain peace.
The hill district has been rocked by ethnic strife between warring Dimasa and Zemi-Naga tribes and violence by the banned Dima Halam Daogah (DHD-J) and NSCN insurgent outfits.
