Assam migrants safe in Hyderabad: Assam ministers

Following the malicious rumours and resulting exodus of north-east people from different states, two ministers from Assam arrived at Hyderabad to review the situation and reassured the migrants that Hyderabad was safe for them.

Assam’s Minister for Power and Industry Pradyut Bordoloi and Minister for Forests Rakib-ul-Hussain met people from the northeastern state living here and tried to instill confidence in them. Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Sabita Indra Reddy was also along with them while they held a meeting with representatives of information technology (IT) companies and private security agencies.

The ministers visited the north-east dominated areas like Anjaiahnagar and Siddiquenagar of Cyberabad and tried to allay their apprehensions and advised them not to leave the city believing in the rumours of attacks. He also advised people to approach the police if they faced any problem or felt threatened.

According to Cyberabad Police Commissioner D. Tirumala Rao, 60 Assamese dropped their plans who were about to leave the city, following rumours that they would be attacked, after they were persuaded by the police.

Not only security guards and workers, some students and professionals are also returning home.
