Assam, Imphal, Srinagar rocked by terror attacks on Independence Day

Tinsukia (Assam): With the nation on high alert on the occasion on Independence Day, four low intensity blasts today morning rocked Tinsukia and Sivasagar in Assam, however, no causalities have been reported so far.

“The investigation is yet to be done about the blasts. All the blasts have taken place in isolated places like, fields, drain and such but have not caused any causalities. The senior officers are on the spot with the teams to probe the incident. The special DG is also present to look into the matter,” DGP Mukesh Sahai told ANI.

Meanwhile, two medium intensity IED blasts were also witnessed in Imphal.

Violence hit Srinagar yet again, as three terrorists opened fire on security forces in Nowhatta area of Srinagar in which five CRPF soldiers and one Jammu and Kashmir policeman were injured.

Earlier today, in his address to the nation from the Red Fort, Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned terrorism and called on for unity to fight terrorism.

“This country will never bend before terrorism. Many innocents were killed in Peshawar terrorist attack, but there were tears in everyone’s eyes in Parliament here,” he added.

Asserting that ‘unity in diversity’ is the whole essence of the Indian culture, the Prime Minister said there is no place for violence and atrocities in the nation. (ANI)
