Assam government’s approach towards terror callous, alleges BJP

Asserting that the Assam Government’s approach towards terrorism is callous, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday alleged that Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi-led government stands politically guilty of dereliction of duty.

“Assam State Government’s approach towards terror is callous. There have been in recent past two incidents which brings out the truth that the Congress government in Assam has not done enough in the fight against terror. Mr. Gogoi and his government stand politically guilty of the dereliction of duty,” BJP national secretary Siddharth Nath Singh told media persons here.

Referring to the December 23 incident which happened in Kokrajhar and Sonitpur districts of Assam where 75 or more people died due to the gruseome attack carried out by the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Songbijit) outfit, Singh said, “In this attack there was a credible and specific intelligence report which was generated by the IB in Guwahati and also by the special branch of Assam Police that this attack is going to be carried out on the Adivasis in these two districts.”

He also alleged that there were five intelligence reports which were ignored by the state government.

“The intelligence report which was given to the state government of Assam was not post-facto. Generally we have seen that when unfortunate attacks like these happens, the central agencies says we had given, the state agencies say we have not received,” he said.

” But in this case it was given much ahead and they were in the forms, initially five times from September to November and five times major alerts were given. Subsequently, in the first week of December there was not only an alert but an indication that this kind of an attack is going to happen……..,” he added.

On Saturday the Home Ministry reportedly directed the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to investigate the four cases registered by Assam police regarding recent killings in the state.

Earlier on Friday, the Assam had recommended that the investigation be handed over to NIA. (ANI)
