Guwahati: A frenzied mob assaulted an unmarried couple for travelling together and later forcibly got them married according to Police.
This was the case of moral policing said the Police where the furious mob assaulted the unmarried couple in their 20s travelling on the bike on Friday, PTI reported.
The video footage of the incident soon went viral on social media.
According to the Police, the couple was assaulted in Rongjuli area in Pukhurpur village on June 19.
The villagers later held a meeting and forcibly got the couple married said the man’s brother.
Assam Director General of Police Kuladhar Saikia said, the Police filed a suo motu case and so far arrested two suspects involved in the assault.
While one suspect was arrested on Thursday, the other suspect was arrested today said the Police.
The two suspects were booked under various IPC sections including 342 (wrongful confinement), 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt) and 354b (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe) added the Police.
