Guwahati, Apr. 23 (ANI): Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has recently urged all militant outfits, which are a hurdle in the growth and development of the state, to join peace talks.
Five years after the deadly terror attack in Assam that killed 100 and injured 300, the main accused, National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) chairman, Ranjan Daimary, was granted bail on April 14. It is believed that Daimary may be on board for the ongoing peace process.
“ Rajan Daimary has got bail. We had done the same for ULFA insurgents, but our aim is to get into talks with them so that they don’t indulge in unlawful activities. Whether it’s ULFA, DHD, Karbi or BLT outfit, we have sent a peace proposal to all of them, so that events like that of 30th October (Assam serial blasts) are not repeated,” said Gogoi.
Although insurgency has declined in Assam in recent times, the state is still far from being completely free of insurgents. There are six outfits active in Assam, including the anti-talks faction of Ulfa, NDFB (Ranjan), Karbi People”s Liberation Tiger, Kamatapur Liberation Organization, Muslim United Liberation Tigers of Assam and Harkat-ul-Mujahideen.
However, all possible efforts are being made to bring them to the negotiating table for the rapid return of peace and normalcy to the state. (ANI)
