Assam artiste to be awarded for making 4000 masks

Assam [India]: Reba Kanta Mahanta, an octogenarian artiste from Assam, who has made over four thousand masks till date, will be conferred with Moghai Ojah Srijan Award.

The award was instituted in the year 2015 to promote ethnic culture in the state as a tribute to the name of legendary ‘Dhuliya’ Moghai Ojah.

Mahanta is also a recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.

This award carries a cheque of Rs. 25000, a citation, and a memento.

Srijanasom, a charitable trust that institutes the awards, was established with a drive to promote Indian art and culture and to provide services in education to the underprivileged. Along with cultural events, Srijonasom has also given financial assistance to a few penurious schools to continue their curriculum with an unhindered routine.

This year, the organisation has also announced two new scholarship schemes – Srijanasom Siksha Sarothi and Srijanasom Siksha Praj – to support economically marginalized students to help pursue their education.(ANI)
