Guwahati: Police in Nagaon District on Saturday was granted four days remand of eight accused arrested for allegedly raping a 35-year-old woman in front of her husband.
The incident took place on Thursday in Assam’s Nagaon district, where the couple who were traveling from Kanpur to Hojai could not find any transportation to reach Hojai after reaching Chaparmukh and were trapped by one of the accused on the pretext of providing them help.
“If required, we may seek more time for questioning,” said Nagaon SP Shankar Barata Raimedhi regarding the four days remand granted adding that the victim’s condition is now stable, Toi reported.
He further said, “The prime accused, Marjot Ali, took them to Kakotigaon on the pretext of providing them shelter for the night. At an isolated place near Kopili river, seven others… were already waiting,” and “the group thrashed her husband and gang-raped the woman in front of him before robbing the couple and fleeing the spot.”
