Asma Jahangir’s funeral prayers held at Gaddafi Stadium

Lahore: The funeral prayers for leading human rights lawyer Asma Jahangir were offered at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on Tuesday.

A number of top government officials, prominent members of the legal fraternity, celebrities, activists, alongside members of her family, attended the funeral prayers, Dawn reported.

Acknowledging Jahangir’s services for the protection of human rights, Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar on Tuesday called the activist a “towering and fearless personality”.

The human rights lawyer received no less than a state funeral. Asma died at the age of 66 on Sunday after suffering cardiac arrest.

Born to bureaucrat Malik Ghulam Jilani and Sabiha Jilani in Lahore on January 27, 1952, Jahangir was best known for her pro-democratic and human rights activism. She is survived by her husband Tahir Jahangir, two daughters, and a son.
