‘Ask Modi, Yogi’: Rahul Gandhi’s response to students on problems in Amethi school

AMETHI: Days after Union Minister Smriti Irani’s Amethi visit, Congress President Rahul Gandhi is touring his home constituency Amethi. But it was his interaction with some school students that has hit the headlines. The Congress chief on Monday told students of a school to pose questions before Prime Minister Narendra Modi instead of him.

Rahul is currently on a three-day visit to Amethi and Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh.

During his interaction with school children in Amethi, one of the girl students asked: “The government has enacted many laws but why are not they properly being implemented in the villages?”

The Amethi MP responded sarcastically, “Yeh aap Modi ji sey puchiye. Meri sarkar thodi hi hai. Jab hamari sarkar hogi tab hamsey poochna (You should pose this question to Modi ji. This is not my government. You should ask me this question to us (Congress) when we come to power).”

The Congress chief also ducked question on Amethi, his parliamentary constituency, and put the blame on UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

When the students told him about problems in electricity supply in Amethi, Rahul said, “Amethi ko toh Yogi ji chalate hain. Main to Amethi ka MP hoon. Mera kaam Lok Sabha mey kanoon bananey ka hai. Magar Yogi ji kaa kaam UP ko chalaney ka hai aur Yogi ji doosra kaam kar rahey hain. (Yogi governs Amethi. I am MP from Amethi and my work is to enact laws in the Lok Sabha. It is responsibility of Yogi to govern UP but he is busy doing something else).”

He further said, “(Bijli kaa kaam nahi kar rahey hain, paani ka kaam nahi kar rahey hain, Shiksha ka kaam nahi kar rahey hain aur krodh faila rahey hain. (He (Yogi) is not working on electricity, water, education and spreading anger).”

Gandhi met and addressed school students at an event at Rasta Mau in Amethi.

The Congress president began his visit to Amethi and Raebareli on Monday. Amethi is represented by Gandhi in Parliament, while his mother and former Congress president Sonia Gandhi is the MP from Raebareli.

On the first day of his visit, he targeted the BJP government for denying loan waiver to farmers.

“The government has waived Rs 2.5 lakh crore loans of five capitalists, but cannot waive loans of farmers. Finance Minister Arun Jaitely has denied help to farmers stating there is no policy for this,” Gandhi said at a meeting with farmers in Jainabganj in his Amethi parliamentary constituency.
