Asian man arrested for drug smuggling

Muscat, April 19: An Asian man has been arrested in Oman while trying to smuggle a narcotic substance hidden in his stomach. He was caught by customs officials at the Muscat International Airport, police sources said.

“The Drug Enforcement Administration had earlier received information of an Asian getting a tourist visa and carrying narcotic substances,” Royal Oman Police (ROP) spokesman Lieutenant Ali al Kasbi said. “After the accused arrived at the airport, he was immediately referred to the Police Hospital for medical tests. Drugs similar to morphine were found in his gut. The case has been sent to Public Prosecution,” Kasbi said.

Meanwhile, new ROP reports showed that 70 people were killed and 798 others injured in road accidents in the country during March. The Dhahirah region recorded the highest number of six deaths.
