Asian Games: Jinson Johnson strikes gold in men’s 1500m

Jakarta : Indian athlete Jinson Johnson on Thursday clinched a gold medal in Men’s 1500m athletics event at the ongoing 18th edition of the Asian Games.

The 27-year-old claimed the top position on the podium after finishing with a clock timing of 3:44.72 in the final of the event.

While Amir Moradi of Iran finished second with a timing of 3:45.62, Bahrain athlete Mohammed Tiouali settled for bronze as he clocked 3:45.88.

Earlier, Johnson had won a silver medal in Men’s 800m Athletics Event, after he finished just behind his Indian counterpart Manjit Singh, with a clock timing of 1:46.35.

In Women’s 1500m event, India’s Chitra Unnikrishnan bagged a bronze medal after she finished third with a clock timing of 4:12:56.

The top two positions were claimed by Bahrain athletes Kalkidan Befkadu and Tigist Belay in the final of the women’s event.

While Befkadu clinched the gold with a timing of 4:07:88, Belay settled for silver as she clocked 4:09:12.

In Women’s Discus Throw, India’s Seema Punia got a bronze medal after a throw of 62.26m in the final of the event.

Two Chinese athletes, Yang Chen and Bin Feng, were the holder of the top two positions in the final event.

While Chen clinched the gold with an effort of 65.12m, Feng settled for silver with a throw of 64.25m.

India’s total medal tally at the prestigious tournament now stands at 57– twelve gold, 20 silver and 25 bronze.
