The 28th Congress of Asia Pacific Ophthalmology Conference will be held in Hyderabad from 17th to 20th January.
It will be inaugurated by Mr. Pranab Mukherjee, President of India at International Convention Center at Madhapur, Hitech City, Hyderabad.
Mr.S.L Narasimhan, Governor of AP and Mr.N.Kiran Kumar Reddy, Chief Minister of AP would be the guests of honour.
It is the second time that this conference is being held in this city. Earlier, it was held in Hyderabad in1985.
Dr. Rajivardhan Azad, Secretary-General, Dr. N.S Reddy, Dr.Manoj Mathur, Additional Organizing Secretary, Dr. Harbanslal, Treasurer, told that this conference would be of great significance.
A review of eye diseases, eradication of blindness and use of latest technology in eye surgery will be discussed in this conference.
Nearly ten thousand delegates from 29 countries would participate in the conference. 150 eye specialist from Pakistan will also attend this conference.
The conference will have 400 scientific sessions.
Dr. Rajuvardhan Azad is the Advisor of the Ministry of Health of Govt of India.
He is also the Director of World Health Organization of New Delhi Center.
An exhibition is also being organized at International Convention Center. More than 168 business companies are also participating in this conference. He said that Govt. is spending Rs 12000 crore for restoration of the eye sight of the blind persons.
He further informed that in the past, there used to be one ophthalmologist for 20 thousand people. These days in rural areas, one eye specialist is available for one lakh persons.
At present, 50 thousand undergraduates and 25 thousand postgraduates are pursuing education in ophthalmology.
