Srinagar: An assistant sub inspector with the Jammu and Kashmir Police continued to be in service well past his retirement age even as his colleagues and juniors retired, by allegedly fudging his birth certificate.
Maqbool Ahmed Sheikh was today booked by the Crime Branch of J&K Police for tampering his service record by changing his date of birth from September 22, 1952 to September 22, 1958, SSP Crime Branch Jammu, Ramesh Jalla, said.
All his colleagues and even the juniors retired from the services during the year 2010-2012. The accused official drew ‘extra salary’ for about six years and even got a promotion during this period, he said.
Sheih had availed the benefits of extended age of retirement through fraudulent means, thus conferring undue benefit upon himself and causing loss to the state exchequer that prima facie constitute offences punishable under law, Jalla said.
A complaint in this regard was received wherein it was alleged that Sheikh working with “criminal and dishonest intention” tampered his service record.
The SSP said the allegations were found correct on verification, resulting in the registration of FIR against the accused officer.
