New Delhi [India]: Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and former South Africa batsman Herschelle Gibbs got involved in a Twitter spat on Monday, but the war of words took an ugly turn when the former recalled the latter’s match-fixing episode.
The Twitter conversation started when Ashwin posted a video promoting a shoe brand, to which Gibbs replied by saying that, hopefully the new shoes will make the off-spinner run faster.
Hey Guys! Just got my hands on the new NIKE React. It’s got a stunning design and the foam technology used makes it light and comfortable to use. Undoubtedly, the best running shoes I’ve stepped into, can’t wait to flaunt them.

Gibbs’ joke did not go down well with Ashwin as he brought up the former Proteas cricketer’s involvement in the infamous match-fixing saga in 2000.
The bowler replied to Gibbs’, saying, “Surely not as fast you did mate, unfortunately, I wasn’t as blessed as you were. But I was blessed with a wonderfully ethical mind not to fix games which put food on my plate.”
Responding, the Proteas opener accused Ashwin of not knowing how to tackle jokes.

In an attempt to pacify the situation, Ashwin invited Gibbs on a dinner and also pulled down his ‘fixing scandal’ tweet.
I totally believed my reply was a joke too, but look how people and yourself perceived it. I am totally game for this sort of fun mate, we shall dine over this sometime.😂 https://t.co/Z7YdXQnxeD
