Asaduddin Owaisi slams Aurangabad Police for issuing notice

MIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi condemned the Aurangabad Police for imposing a one-month ban on his entry while disallowing a public meeting proposed to be held in the town on February 1.

Talking to reporters after receiving a notice served by Aurangabad Police Commissioner under Section 144 to him at Darulsalaam here on Wednesday, the MIM president said that the Maharashtra Government and Police were trying to deprive him of his constitutional rights. Stating that the party has already approached the High Court against the police ban, he said that the police action was part of the conspiracy to suppress MIM’s voice.

Asaduddin Owaisi claimed that in his notice, the Aurangabad Commissioner pointed out that he (Asaduddin Owaisi) did not condemn MIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi’s alleged hate speech. Asking as to why he should condemn Akbar’s speech, he said that the matter was subjudice and based on the evidences, the Nirmal and Nizamabad courts would decide whether or not Akbaruddin Owaisi’s speech was wrong. He said how the Police Commissioner could question his stand on Akbar’s speech.

Further, the MIM president said that the Commissioner has accused him of not following court orders. Describing the allegation as wrong and baseless, he said that he never escaped the law. He said that the cases pending against him in Medak and Hyderabad had nothing to do with his entry or public meeting in Aurangabad. He said many politicians do face several cases and he was one among them. However, he said he was facing no personal cases and all were political in nature.

“Why are they afraid of us,” Asaduddin Owaisi asked while adding that the MIM leaders have always spoke within the purview of the constitution. He said it was wrong on the part of the police and government to expect the MIM leaders to remain silent on atrocities and injustices against Muslims. “This is democracy and I have a right to express my opinion, even if you don’t like it,” he said.

“I’m a Member of Parliament and I can go anything in the country and I can raise my voice about problems being faced by the people,” the MIM president said. Accusing the Maharashtra police and government of trying to damage the democracy, he said their actions were aimed at suppressing his fundamental rights.

Asaduddin Owaisi said, “I’m an Indian. I have full faith on democracy and our judiciary. Our constitution permits me to raise my voice and I will not remain silent.” He announced that he would go to not only Aurangabad, but entire Maharashtra. (INN)
