Itanagar, December 18: Arunachal Pradesh has proposed to the defence ministry for construction of an Advanced Landing Ground (ALG) at the Buddhist town of Tawang which has a 300-year-old monastery to cater to defence needs and promote tourism.
Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu proposed this to Defence Secretary Pradeep Kumar when he called on him yesterday.
Kumar and senior army officials discussed the handing over of several ALGs lying unused in the state to the Defence ministry under an MoU signed last year.
The meeting also discussed matters pertaining to land acquisition for army infrastructure and progress of BRO roads in the state.
Khandu urged the Centre to raise at least four battalions of Arunachal Scouts on the lines of Ladak and Kumaon scouts for effective border management.
