Artists should create more awareness on life style diseas: Murthy

Press Information Bureau (PIB) Director General M V V S Murthy today said Song and Drama artists should create more awareness on life style diseas like Hypertension, Diabetic and Cancer in rural areas. Speaking after inauguration of a two-day orientation-cum- workshop for the artistes of the registered cultural troupes of Song and Drama Division here, he said preventive measures have to be highlighted during their campaign. Health and Family Welfare Department Senior Regional Director Dr Mohan Mathur said the government has taken several steps to reduce the Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) and Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) for safe mother and safe children. Artists during their campaign highlight the institutional delivery and sanitation in rural areas to improve health system, he said. Directorate of Field Publicity Director T V K Reddy stressed on smoking, immunisation where song and Drama artists hve to create awareness in the field level. Additional Director family Welfare Department Dr Govardhana Reddy said 72 per cent of children below five years were suffering from malnutrition and 56 per cent of women were suffering from Anemia. Several artists from various districts of Andhra Pradesh attended the workshop. UNI
