Art Of Living Begins Durgam Cheruvu Cleansing

The Art of Living Hyderabad today initiated cleaning up of Durgam Cheruvu lake at Madhapur. Volunteers gathered plastics, weeds and other debris over four hours from 7 am to 1 pm.

Despite the incessant rain, over 250 people from The Art of Living, Youth for Seva, Greater Hyderabad Adventure Club, Save Lakes and nearby societies took part in the task. Students from ICFAI University and BITS Pilani, Hyderabad also took part in the event.

Known as ‘secret’ lake, it turned extremely filthy with all the construction and sudden influx of people into the area after the software development began. The GHMC provided baskets, shovels and other equipment for solid waste collection and arranged for the trash collected to be disposed of.

“We request the companies in and around Hitec city to participate in this gigantic task,” said Venkatachalam, a senior committee member of The Art of Living, Hi tech city. “Cleaning the lake is just a beginning. We will work with the local bodies and educate people, plant trees, etc. in an effort to conserve the environment,” said Nikhil, one of the organizers of this event. (NSS)
