Deoband: Reports are doing rounds that Yogi Adityanath government has decided to withdraw 4000 ‘political’ cases pertaining to Muzaffarnagar riots of 2013 in which 63 people were killed and over 50,000 rendered homeless.
Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind leader Maulana Syed Arshad Madani said that 50000 people belonging to minority community have been displaced while 60 were killed. 500 cases have been registered against persons belonging to the minority community and 6867 of them have been made accused.
Condemning the decision to withdraw cases, Maulana said it is discriminatory to withdraw cases belonging to one party only. It is not justice. Justice would be done only when the cases belonging to both the communities are withdrawn. He informed that Muslims’ houses and properties were looted, their houses and lands were occupied, their cattle were let loose, they were raped and killed.
Maulana Arshad Madani said if the state government does not do justice, show bias and ignore oppressed, Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind will raise voice against it and will fight till the oppressed get justice.
Law minister Brajesh Pathak admitted that a process was underway to withdraw political cases related to Muzaffarnagar riots, as several political leaders were implicated in the riots.
It must be noted that a number of BJP leaders were named in FIRs in Muzaffarnagar riots including Muzaffarnagar MP Sanjeev Baliyan, Bijnor MP Bhartendra Singh, Budhana MLA Umesh Malik and VHP leader Sadhvi Prachi. Other BJP leaders facing riot charges include BJP MLA from Thana Bhawan, Shamli and UP Minister Suresh Rana apart from BJP MLA from Sardhana Sangeet Singh Som.
