More arrests likely in Old City poll violence cases

Three activists of Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen were taken into custody by the Hyderabad Police on Wednesday in connection with attack on TPCC chief N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and Leader of Opposition Mohammed Ali Shabbir on Tuesday.

Speaking to media persons here on Wednesday, DCP South Zone V. Satyanarayana informed that three accused persons Syed Abdahu Kashaf, Shaik Abed Ali and Mohammed Masiuddin have been arrested in connection with attack on Congress leaders N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and Mohammed Ali Shabbir. He said remaining accused persons would be arrested by Thursday. He said that the accused persons were being identified through video footage of the incident.

The DCP said seven incidents of violence were reported from 29 divisions where polling was held on Tuesday. They include two cases in Rein Bazar, one each in Santosh Nagar, Chandrayangutta and Mir Chowk police limits. There were two cases of preventive arrests of MIM MLA Ahmed Pasha Quadri and Congress candidate Mohammed Ghouse. The accused include Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, MIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi and their followers. He said that the main accused in the case of attack on senior journalist Mubashiruddin Khurram has been identified as Shaik Ubed of Kalapather.

He assured that stern action would be taken against those involved and responsible for violence. (INN)
