Arrest warrants against Prabhakaran, Pottu in Kadirgamar case

Colombo, May 13: Tamil Tiger supremo V Prabhakaran and his intelligence chief Pottu Amman were on Wednesday issued fresh arrest warrants by a Sri Lankan court in connection with the assassination of former foreign minister Lakshman Kadirgamar, who was killed by a suspected LTTE sniper team in 2005.

This was the second time this year that the Colombo High Court had issued open warrants for arrest against the two LTTE leaders in the Kadirgamar case.

The court had earlier on January 26 issued the warrants for the two fugitives, also wanted in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.

Charles Master and Komadee Manimekala are the two other suspects wanted in the Kadirgamar assassination case and police said they are unable to arrest them due to the ongoing battles in the island’s North.

In May last year, five suspects, who were under detention in connection with the killing of Kadirgamar, were released.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Nishantha Hapuarachchi, on the direction of the Attorney General, had released the five suspects — Manikkam Tamil Iniyam, Ratnam Janakan, Aiyar Raj Kumar, Sivaraja Sivaram and Kalimuuttu Thirukumar — after their prolonged detention in remand.
