Superintendent of Police of Tiruppur R Ponni and other police officials today appeared in persons before the Madras High Court in conenction with the arrest of a magistrate who allegedly cheated a woman police sub-inspector after promising to marry her.
The first bench comprising acting Chief Justice R K Agrawal and Justice M Sathyanarayana, who took suo-motu proceedings in the case, said the police officials did not follow the Supreme Court’s directions at the time of his arrest.
Before and after the arrest of the magistrate, the district Judge of the area was not appraised of it.
After hearing from the counsel for the police officials, the court posted the matter for two weeks for filing of counter.
Thangaraj, magistrate of Coonoor, was arrested on June 29 for allegedly marrying after ditching a woman police sub-inspector with whom he was having a relationship for three years.
He was arrested on a complaint by the Sub-Inspector attached to Palladam Police Station in Tirupur District.
He was later released on bail by a court in Tirupur.
