Hyderabad: The State Election Commissioner Nagi Reddy today said that auctioning of the Sarpanch and other members is a crime and those involved in it will be dealt with seriously. He attended a program to provide training on panchayat polls to Polling Officials at Chivvemla village in the district.
On the occasion, he said that they have made all arrangements for the first phase of Panchayat polls in Telangana districts on Jan 21. Nagi Reddy also inspected the arrangements at Suryapet district and toured several villages as part of the village panchayat polls. He conducted a review meeting with nodal officials including Collector Amay Kumar, SP Venkateshwarlu and district special election officer Chiranjivulu and others and asked them to coordinate for the smooth and fair polls.
Later speaking to reporters at Suryapet, Nagi Reddy said that the political parties can start campaign from Monday morning 10 am to 6 pm with mikes and other materials for the first phase polls.
Appealing to the political parties to avoid unanimous selection of Sarpanches and cooperate for conducting the polls, he said that MPDOs will count the expenditures to be spent by the Sarpanch candidates. He appreciated the officials for involving in election duty despite the Sankrathi festival.
The state election commission is conducting the polls in a fair and peaceful manner and the people can select their best choice by casting their votes, he said. ‘We have conducted awareness program for increasing the voter per centage and the officials are ready for the polls’. He also warned that any poll code violations will be punished.
