Srinagar: Army chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag will not be visiting Jammu and Kashmir today to review the security situation in the unrest-hit Valley, Army sources said.
Though there was no official word, defence sources in Kashmir had said the Army chief was expected in the valley today.
However, officials at the Army headquarters said Suhag had no plans to visit Kashmir today. There was no official word on the development either in Kashmir or in the national capital.
Meanwhile, sources said the apparent reason for the change in the plan could have been the attack on the Army convoy today in Kashmir and the visit would have sent wrong signals.
“There was never a plan (to visit Kashmir today) nor is there a plan now,” an Army official, however, said.
Over 70 people have died and more than 10,000 injured in the clashes followed by the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani in July.
