The eight-member Armed Forces Pay Committee, led by its chairman Lt. Gen. Anwar Hossain, has handed over its report to Bangladesh Finance Minister A.M.A. Muhith with a recommendation for an over 100 per cent hike in salaries for members of the Bangladesh Army,Navy and Air Force.
The committee, according to the Daily Star, suggested Taka 8,200 basic pay for lowest grade soldier, Taka 80,000 for the rank and equivalent of a major general, Taka 88,000 for lieutenant general and equal and Taka 1 lakh for a general and similar rank.
For the rank of a major general, the salary hike proposed is a 100 percent increase from the previous scale of Tk 40,000 while for a lieutenant general, the hike is almost 110 percent.
For a general, the hike proposed is more than 122 percent from their current basic pay of Tk 45,000, according to information obtained from Bangladesh Army.
Last month, a similar committee recommended for doubling the basic pay of civil servants on the average for employees under 16 proposed grades in place of the existing 20.
Rewarding the armed forces more, the committee concerned has proposed more than double hike for members of the armed forces, under 16 grades, in its report.
