Hyderabad, September 6: We have lost many cultural heritages thanks to our negligence and inappreciation. One example of that is the 120 year old Qutub Shahi style fountain located near government maternity hospital at Nayapul. Since the maternity hospital is shifted to Petlaburj the vast premises is being used as high court parking lot. Two years ago this land of maternity hospital had been handed over to Andhra Pradesh high court which is being used as parking lot.
Signs of a beautiful building still exist in the centre of the parking lot. A structure of fine art is installed right in front of it which is made of shiny black marble stone. The fountain is octagonal and belongs to the era of founder of the city Qutub Shah. The fountain is divided into two parts and each side is finely carved. The water comes out from the tusk of the elephant carved onto the fountain. Tiger is also carved along with the elephant but presently the fountain is defunct and its shining is also gone. The font is also in a very dilapidated condition. This fountain was actually the part of Ameen Bagh adjacent to Qutub Shahi mahal (nadi mahal) on whose remains the building of high court was constructed. Earlier to this the Ameen bagh was transformed into the hospital.
This fountain is the sign of old age. Such types of fountains are neither found in Chawmahalla palace nor in Purani Haveli, hence its preservation is necessary.
