Ahad Ibrahim (20), an architecture student of Acharya Polytechnic College, Soladevanahalli, who suffered head injuries on January 27, died at a private hospital in Thrissur, Kerala on March 11.
Ibrahim who hailed from Thrissur, Kerala was studying Diploma in Architecture at the Acharya Polytechnic College, Bangalore, residing in a flat in Bagalagunte along with two of his friends, was allegedly injured in ragging and admitted to Sapthagiri Hospital by his roommates on January 27.
The roommates claimed that the boy had an accidental fall in the bathroom and they had broken open the door before shifting him to the hospital.
Soldevanahalli police was alerted by the hospital authorities and found the boy in a state coma when they went to check on the case.
The parents had complained to the college principal on January 31 alleging that Ibrahim was injured due to ragging in his flat, said CBM Bhushan, spokesperson of Acharya institute. However, they had not named anybody in the complaint. Further, “a day after the student was admitted to the hospital, some students told the principal that Ibrahim was injured in a road accident”, he said.
An internal inquiry was held but the actual cause of injuries was not known. “So the college forwarded the parents’ statement to the police,” Mr. Bhushan said.
The parents shifted the boy to a private hospital in Thrissur, later.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North), Mr. Sandeep Patil said that the Soladevanahalli police inspector, had not brought the allegations of ragging to the notice of his senior officials and also had not acted on it. “Action will be initiated against Yathiraj, police-inspector, Soladevanhalli.
The Assistant Commissioner of Police, Yehwanthpur has been asked to inquire into the matter and submit a report in two days. All the allegations will be investigated,” said the DCP (North).Courtesy:Karnataka muslims
