Hyderabad, August 30: The state Government today appointed the senior IPS officer K.Aravinda Rao as the new Director General of Police Andhra Pradesh. The Chief Minister K.Roshaiah singed the file appointing Aravinda Rao as the new state police chief. The outgoing DGP Girish Kumar would be retiring tomorrow and Aravinda Rao will be taking charge as at his place in state police headquarters at Lakdikapool.
Former intelligence Chief Aravinda Rao belongs to the 1977 batch of IPS and remained in limelight during the rule of former Chief Minister Andhra Pradesh Dr.Y.S.Rajsekhara Reddy and known as the loyalist of KVP Ramchander Rao. However after the tragic death of Rajsekhara Reddy in helicopter crash, Aravinda Rao was transfered and posted as the Director General Anti-Corruption Bureau.
Though Aravinda Rao’s service is only 10 months but the Chief Minister decided to appoint him as the Director General of Police keeping in view of his vast experience gained by him while he was the Intelligence Chief for more than five years. The sources say that the Chief Minister feels that Rao is the fit officer to tackle the boiling issue of demand for separation of state of Telangana.
Rao earlier served as the Additional Commissioner of Police Co-ordination Hyderabad and in other wings of A.P.Police such as Vigilence & Enforcement, greyhounds.
