Vijayawada, April 11: Aqua farmers of Krishna district have stressed on the need for setting up a national level organisation in the region, as there was no scientific advisory available for them.
Speaking at a programme organised by the international marketing division of American Soyabean Association (ASA) at Hotel Gateway here on Sunday, Krishna district fish producers association president Kamineni Srinivas said, with no scientific advisory available, farmers were practising aquaculture following trial and errors in the region.
There was no transfer of technology from laboratory to its users.
He stressed on the need for a national body for aqua culture on line of National Egg Coordination Committee (NECC) to poultry farmers, so that the farmers could get scientific advisory on different aspect of aquaculture including feed management, production technology and marketing.
Aquaculture plays a great role in economic development of Krishna, East and twin Godavari districts, said aquafarmers.
Global Aquaculture technical director of American Soyabean Association Michael C Cremer advised the aqua farmers to be cautious while using feeds for pisciculture and try to reduce their wastage.
However, he said, over exploitation of aquaculture is not advisable.
