APTransco to buy 1800 MW

Vijayawada, January 08: There will be no power cut in the state, including in agriculture, industrial and domestic sectors, in the ensuing summer as the APTransco has already initiated several measures to meet the growing demand, its CMD Ajay Jain said.

Speaking to presspersons here today on the sidelines of zonal review meeting on power supply to agriculture sector and setting up of new substations, Ajay Jain said it was decided to purchase 1000 MW of power for March and 800 MW for April at a cost of Rs 620 crore to meet the increase in demand.

At present, the state is producing 15000 MW of power. About 1500 MW of power will be added to the existing capacity this year and another 800 MW next year. A total of 16862 MW will be added to the power generation capacity of the state by 2017.

Of the total, 6482 MW will be provided by APTransco, 2400 MW by NTPC, 1200 MW by Singareni Collieries and 6780 MW by private sector.

With the increase in power generation, the APTransco will be able to meet the growing demand in the coming years effectively.

Ajay Jain said administrative sanction was given for setting up of 170 new power substations in the state at an estimated cost of Rs 6,000 crore in the coming four years.

Of them, 6 are 400 KV, 37 220 KV and 127 132 KV substations. Tenders for the new substations will be invited within two months and the works will begin soon after finalisation of the tenders.

A 400 KV substation will be set up between Narasaraopet and Sattenapalli in Guntur district in the zone.

Discoms also will set up 3,837 new 33 KV substations across the state in the coming four years at a cost of Rs 8,000 crore, he added.
